Job Summary

Director of Quality and Safety

We are looking for a registered nurse to step into the role of Director of Quality and Safety at Erlanger East Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. You will manage solely the 100+ bed community hospital with the mentorship from the Director of Patient Safety, Quality, and Accreditation for the Erlanger Health System.

You will need to have your RN Licensure from Tennessee, a graduate degree from an accredited school of nursing, and at least 3 years of progressive management experience in healthcare Quality. A BSN and more than 5 years of Quality leadership experience is ideal, as well as a CPHQ or a Lean Six Sigma certification. Additional bonus experience includes DNV survey knowledge, process improvement capabilities to drive change, and people skills to work alongside physicians and educate fellow employees.

The Erlanger East Hospital campus is a full-service, community hospital taking care to the next level with world-class surgical, emergency, heart, stroke, cancer, and pediatric care. As part of Erlanger Health System, a teaching hospital system affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the East location includes an Emergency Department, a Level 1 NICU, and Women’s services, among other provisions.

Job Summary:
Oversight for support of operational areas to meet their responsibility for Quality, Process Improvement,
Service Excellence, and Culture of Safety for the enterprise. Directs and coordinates key strategic
development and functional services to support department objectives and organizational goals.
Maintains effective and responsive relationships with patients, medical staff, and other departments.
Oversight for any of the above departmental committees at the facility level. Directs the surveillance of
targeted patient populations in accordance with each operating unit’s risk assessment plan. Works in
collaboration with others on enterprise wide initiatives.

Education:
Required:
– Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred:
– BSN or MSN preferred
– Certification

Experience:
Required:
– Experience in supervising/managing/leading within a department or functional area.
– 3-5 years of progressive healthcare management experience in healthcare.
– Proven experience and success with development and implementation of performance
improvement, accreditation, safety, and outcome programs
– Proven positive relationships with physicians and other care providers.
– Flexible hours or beyond regular business hours, based on quality and safety need.
Preferred:
– 7+ years of progressive healthcare management experience in healthcare.
– Intensive care, or other clinical experience
– DNV accreditation experience.
– Proven experience and success with development and implementation of performance
improvement, accreditation, safety, and outcome programs
– Experience leading local engagement large national quality and safety collaborative efforts (e.g.
Children’s Hospital’s Solutions for Patient Safety [SPS], Institute for Healthcare Improvement [IHI],
Leapfrog, TIPQC, Patient Safety Organizations)
– Data analytics experience
– Experience presenting at the regional level

License/Certification/Registration
Required:
– Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of Tennessee.
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However,
the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact
state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained
within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
Preferred/Desired:
– Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
– Certification in Process Improvement or LEAN
Special Skills: Proven leadership, people and communication skills
